Senegal’s gambling market is organised around LONASE, the state lottery company, which has held the lottery monopoly since 1966 and extends into sports betting.
The state-first model
LONASE runs lotteries and licensed sports betting products, and its retail network reaches into small towns in a way private operators do not. Land-based casinos operate under licence, mainly in Dakar and the tourist coast.
Online casino gaming has no dedicated Senegalese licensing regime. Offshore operators accept Senegalese players; none of them hold local authorisation, and none answer to a Senegalese regulator.
Payments
Senegal has one of West Africa’s most developed mobile money markets. Wave in particular changed the economics of small transfers here, and Orange Money and Free Money cover the rest. Local operators integrate with all three.
International casinos take neither. As across the region, crypto is the practical bridge, with the costs and counterparty risk that implies.
Language matters for what you sign
Almost every offshore casino serving Senegal writes its terms in English. If your bonus terms, wagering conditions and withdrawal rules are in a language you do not read fluently, you are agreeing to conditions you have not actually read — and bonus terms are exactly where the money is lost. Prefer operators offering genuine French support, and translate the terms before you claim, not after.
Practical advice
For lottery and sports betting, LONASE is the regulated route. For casino games there is no licensed local option, so the choice is between not playing and accepting that you carry the full risk yourself.
