Tanzania regulates gambling actively. The Gaming Board licenses operators under the Gaming Act, sets advertising rules, and requires licensed operators to deduct tax on winnings before payout.
The Gaming Board of Tanzania issues separate licences for casinos, sports betting, internet gaming and slot routes. Operators without one cannot legally advertise or take bets from Tanzanian residents.
Withholding tax on winnings is deducted by the operator at payout. The rate is revised in the annual Finance Act and has moved several times in recent years, so check the current figure rather than a number you read last season.
Mobile money is the whole story: M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money and HaloPesa. Locally licensed operators integrate with all of them and deposits clear instantly on any handset.
International casinos do not take Tanzanian mobile money directly. The usual workaround is buying USDT through a local exchange and depositing that — functional, but it adds a spread and a counterparty to every transaction.
Sports betting dominates, with English football far ahead of the domestic league in betting volume. Crash games spread here on the same pattern as Kenya, moving through the same mobile-money rails. Virtual football fills the quiet hours.
Licensed local operators handle the tax correctly and pay out in shillings without conversion cost. Going offshore buys you a bigger game library and leaves you responsible for a tax position nobody is deducting for you.
